To start I’d like to say I am a veteran videography and photographer. I’ve used large gimbals with full frame camera and small Gimbals line this. I think a lot of the bad reviews are from user error and lack of knowledge. I suggest reading the instructions and watch some tutorial videos to learn when you get new gear. There is most likely a simple fix or oversight your not seeing. Regarding this gimbal I have both the OM4 and OM5. I got the 5 because of the extension rod and I really like for low shots after a few days of use. I will agree with others that both the OM4 and OM5 stress to carry the weight of the iPhone 12 and 13 pro max. I use tested the 11 and 12 pro and had no issues. The max I would get some vibration which is disappointing. Please realize the just little weight difference is a big deal on this little gimbal. Remove your case and any attachments on your phone. Less weight the gimbal has to work with the better. Also make sure to balance the phone on the gimbal before turning it on. Hold the motor that goes up and down and then balance the phone so it does not drop to the left or right and stays level on its own. That the only adjustment you can make on this simple gimbal and it’s very important. I believe a lot of people complaining of vibration are not doing this. It’s really easy to want just put on the back plate and stick it to the gimbal and power on but balancing is important step. I blame dji marketing a little as the promo vid shows someone just slapping it on randomly to the phone and sticking to gimbal. You can do this one you balance it once and then remember where to place the mount on your phone each time but the first time make sure to figure out where that spot is and you will prevent a lot of head ache.Another point to bring up is to learn the modes and buttons. Figuring out the features and limits of each mode will help a lot. These gimbals are turn key and can get great content right out of the box but the difference between good and great content is practicing a little bit and getting to know your gimbal. Little things like proper settings, smooth body movement and shot planning can really help. Have patience and learn the tool.I rarely leave reviews but wanted give my two cents on this one as I’m quite experienced with gimbals and think some users are giving bad reviews that aren’t accurate because of lack of knowledge and experience and may turn off some buyers that could really benefit from this awesome product. It’s amazing that this product is under $200 and paired with a new iPhone 13 pro it can create the quality of content that would have taken 10k + of equipment to produce 10 years ago. Amazing what we have access to these days. In one small backpack I have this gimbal, a mavic air 2 and misc filters and I shoot amazing pro quality content. Dji has made that all possible. I’m not affiliate or paid by them. I just really appreciate their gear and think they do in excellent job.I’ll try to find the time to do a tutorial on it and show some of my work in the future. OM5 is an exciting release 🙂

The videos and pictures through the app are a better quality. I love this gimble and have used it a fair few times to get great videos and pictures. I’d recommended to a friend who has also purchased one.
Easy to use, the videos on the app are great and really straightforward. It takes a little practice to get used to the settings but really quick to pick up.

I found it slightly hard to use at start as never had anything like this before. It’s lightweight, once you follow the instructions it’s really easy to use and definitely value for money as feeling like a professional now

In a nutshell – this product is a great idea in theory but doesn’t really work so well in practice.
I have a much older model Osmo (not even for smartphones) and the results it produces are much more superior to this brand spanking new model.
Shooting on the OM 5 with my Android phone results in a bunch of issues: The gimbal doesn’t appear to stabilise the picture as well as my old Osmo. There are vertical jumps in particular. It also appears to be skipping frames here and there, resulting in jumps in picture – a complete no-no!
In addition, the controls on this model are a lot more complicated/less intuitive than on my older Osmo.
In hindsight, I should have known this as the product costs just over £100, and you certainly get what you pay for.
The reason I wanted this model is ease and speed of connection so you can be up and recording quickly – something that just isn’t possible with my older model Osmo – and credit where credit is due, the OM 5 can shoot relatively quickly so I manage to record things I would have missed with the old model. However, when the footage you shoot ends up being unusable or looking ropey at best, then speed soon starts becoming less important. I would not buy this product again, nor would I recommend it.

A Very Good much improved product, I did have the version 3 which i used once then put back in the box as the carrier was a nightmare, and always seemed off balance. This one with the strong magnet is much better for attaching the phone, along with the extension rod for distance is great. This one is also more user friendly, the only disappoint was the colour, Sunset White = Pink

I bought this for recording model trains. It works as a charme and it is especially nice if you want to record a model train, while also controlling the speed of the train. You can mark the train to be tracked, so the device will make sure it follows the model. You don’t have to control the camera then.
The only downside is that you can’t set the device to be used holding the grip horizontally. When recording at model train events, you have to lower yourself to record on eye level. You can’t hold the device like a fishing rod, as it expects to be hold vertically. Would be nice if there was a setting that you can select the way you want to hold it.
Other than that, a brilliant device and for £100 well worth it.

I understand they wanted to make this more foldable – but I found that coming from an Osmo Mobile 2 (OM2 from this point on) took quite a bit of re-learning how to hold it. The OM2 was able to rotate on its vertical axis to where you could hold it down to the ground and it was able to fully rotate to remain level. The OM5 requires you to hold it vertical- the rotate the arm sideways in order to allow the ground shots. If you push it too hard past the limit (which is pretty easy) the gimbal will violently try to center itself before going limp and requiring you to recenter it again. The OM2 didn’t have this problem as I could easily and naturally hold the gimbal low and then back up while keeping my arm in the same position.I also found the DJI Mimo app confusing to use as compared to the OM2’s “DJI Go” version. I dont know why DJI has to release separate apps for their OM gimbals. The functionality and easyeof use of the former app was superior. The Mimo app is clunky and difficult to access some of the features (like the 3×3 shots…etc) I find myself having to squint at the small white icons and have almost given up using it completely. I prefer using the standard camera built into the phone for simplicity. The OM5 has the finger trigger to lock the gimbal from auto rotating with wrist twisting – this is helpful. However, the OM2 double tap to disable was much easier to use. I find the wrist rotation of the gimbal on the OM5 to be jerky at best, especially when rotating the gimbal to the side for lower shots. The gimbal finger controls and wrist movement now change the axis based on the direction it is being held. Good, yes, but awkward and requires learning with a little frustration. In the end- the OM5 size is great! I just miss the simplicity of the older versions even though they were physically larger. I think a lot of these issues can be fixed with updates or maybe somebody with more patience. Coming from the OM2, this requires more “training” than I expected.

I had concerns about getting this, given that the DJI Mimo android app has been pulled from the Google Play store after security issues. However, I needn’t have worried. The gimbal works fine with just bluetooth and my phone’s native camera app. No questionable app download required.

The only thing that doesn’t work is the zoom button and the button at the back (whatever that does). I can easily zoom on the phone, so that doesn’t bother me. Everything else works beautifully. I’m impressed with it. So far, it’s very smooth to use, stable and comfortable to hold. Also helpful that you can flick between portrait and landscape with a tap of a button. The added extension is such a useful addition too, giving more flexibility on shots.

I needed a device I could use as both a tripod and a gimbal to make some product videos without help from a cameraman, and this fit the bill perfectly. It allowed me to use my Motorola phone as my camera and switch from closeup shots moving around the products to static positioned distance shots easily, which made my editing tasks much, much easier (I’m not a good editor, so getting things in one shot, one take is my general goal). The drawback to using DJI is that their software is side loaded. That always introduces security concerns. It would be nice if we could get a way to get compatible working software into the Play store. It is simple to use, powerful and does just work. You can do a lot of really nice things with pan, zoom, rotate and overall control. The phone is easy to get balanced in the holder, which is designed to accommodate a super wide variety of phones.Outside the software, I couldn’t find any real negatives with this little device. It did exactly what I needed it to do as simply as I think it could, which kept my learning curve exceptionally flat. I think I spent 5 minutes figuring it out, if that. I don’t think you could ask for a better device for making really good videos from a phone.
