First time I’ve had a drone and after reviewing alternatives and discussions with drone owners I went for the DJI mini SE. Great little drone, so easy to use. I’m glad I got the fly more combo so I can keep flying without having to wait for batteries to charge.
Only problem I have encountered is that it won’t work with my Samsung S22. Luckily works with my works iPhone. Other than that highly recommended for new users. Picture quality is great.

My first foray into the area of drones and studied all the options balanced with my own requirements which were mainly from a photographic perspective. Lots to take in before taking the plunge. Some excellent reviews on the Mini 2 SE combined with ease of use, camera and of course price.
Like everything else well worth watching some of the information on You Tube before taking to the air. This included the Return to Home button I pressed and it immediately started to ascend rapidly much to my horror. Subsequently discovered it automatically ascends to 100 metres before it starts to return to take off point! This is a preset you can change but helps the drone avoid objects.
Like everything else, a few after sales extras help life ie spare battery, charger unit, undercarriage legs, protective case and hi-vis decals. The drone is hard to see below the skyline being so small.
All in all, a great entry level plus drone.

If you don’t need 4k video and a raft of fancy flying effects (follow mode for example) then this is the drone for you. I’ve been flying RC planes & helis for a long time and always meant to get into drone flying. This is the perfect introduction to it, easy to fly, easy to set up (youtube is all you need to set it up and get hints and tips on flying & accessories) I only wish I’d got one sooner!

Savage DronesDrone Review, DJI Mini-SEPrice on Amazon on 22-07-23: $299Best feature: Affordable step-up to the wonderful DJI worldWorst feature: Phone mounting position on the controllerSummary: B+ This is a delightful little drone that’s easy to learn and a joy to fly, at a good price. However, if you can afford the extra cost for the Mini-2, that would be the better choice. Some of the highlights:1) Before getting this drone, you should confirm that your phone can download and open the DJI Fly app. It’s free, and you can get it at the DJI website.2) This drone is perfect for beginners because of its excellent GPS positioning, and other position sensors. That means the drone can hover well. If something strange starts to happen while you’re learning to fly it, just let go of the sticks, and it will hover and wait for you to tell it what to do.3) The wind resistance is remarkably good for a drone at this price point4) There is no “Fly More” kit for the Mini-SE. However, the Mini-SE batteries are identical to the Mini-2 batteries, and you get the Mini-2 Charging Hub with 2 batteries on Amazon for $150. You won’t need it if you only plan to fly occasionally, but if you expect to fly regularly, you’ll find the charging hub and extra batteries very useful.5) Because of the terrible placement of the phone at the bottom of the remote control, you can’t get a decent sunshade for the Mini-SE.6) The Mini-SE has great range for a drone at this price point. Conclusion: Straight out to the box, without any additions, this is the perfect starter drone at this price point. It’s easy to learn, a delight to fly, and affordable. There’s just no better option at the $299 price level. If that’s your budget…go for it!

Overall a 3/5 experience, not the best but not the worst, good fun for a first drone but could be better.

*Ease of use: The controls themselves are very simple, up, down, left, right. You got a sport mode and a normal mode. I preferred the sport mode.

The drones range is roughly 4000 meters, but many reviews online have said a more realistic range is about 2500m, I however, kept losing signal at about 300m. This was insanely frustrating but alas, given radio frequencies of the area it is what it is. The best feature is that you’re able to lose signal and the drone doesn’t just fly away or hover in the air for eternity, it return to home (RTH) as soon as you lose control over it, and it makes a beeping sound so you can track it in case it goes down somewhere you can’t easily see it.

The other thing with the drone is that it will not show you the highest quality version of the image/video you take right away, you need to have an SD card in the drone and then import the image/video onto your device to see it in full quality which is not the worst thing but worth a mention.

*Value for money: For £349 for the Fly More Combo I’d say it’s a decent value. I got the Fly More Combo thinking I’d be flying it a lot more than I was but after putting about 10km and about 4 hours on the drone, I realised that whilst having 3 batteries and all sorts of extras is great, I really didn’t need it. So, the base model would be perfect if you’re just looking to get into it.

The reason I’m rating the drone a 3/5 is because of the range. Even though some of the areas were populated with WiFi and other frequencies, many of the areas I was in had nothing in that should’ve interferes with the drone yet it wouldn’t want to go back 300m without losing signal. It would be a 4/5 if not for that. The other reason for the lower rating is because DJI does not let you get coverage for the drone unless you do it within 48 hours of setting it up. I find this to be annoying. You get excited when you receive the drone and forget to buy the coverage and they don’t let you get it later down the line.

Otherwise a pretty fun drone to have, it attracts a lot of attention from people so be prepared to explain what it is and how it work!

**Attached is a picture I took with the drone.

I love photograph but hate modern society. I say this because I love taking pictures of sunsets and sunrises or just a beautiful sky but where I live is packed full of powerlines and other modern stables of our everyday life. Not that I don’t love how those things make our lives easier just that I can never get a perfect shot. So I opted to try getting into drone flying as a way to get me back into the photography hobby, something that has always relaxed me. I was so unsure of this venture that I opted to get a starter drone. Mainly because I wasn’t sure drone flying was right for me and didn’t want to up front over a thousand dollars on something that may not be a stable in my everyday. The DJI Mini SE is very much what I went with and am very glad I did. It is easy to fly and understand and has a very cheap warranty based system for this particular drone. DJI Care is that particular warranty service and is essential for both new and expert drone owners alike. If I make a rookie mistake, only one so far *knocks on wood*, you can contact DJI for a repair or drone replacement at a way lower cost to you than purchasing a new drone. I don’t want to review the DJI Care service but it is one of the main reasons I picked DJI.The drone in question marked most of the boxes I had for wanting this drone. Easy to learn so I wasn’t overwhelmed by overly complicated controls. Small design so carrying around and flying were hassle free. Mobile app is easy to navigate and shows all the necessary information needed, even giving some much needed maps to get your drone back if you’ve gotten lost. All in all I’m very happy on most points. The big negatives so far have been both photo and video quality. I’m not sure if it’s just my drone or if it’s working as intended but image quality is very pixelated and can detract from enjoying the image. Video quality is also very pixelated and grainy regardless of what format I’m using. The camera is supposed to take video in both 1080p and 2.7k but both aren’t that great. To be honest I wasn’t expecting film quality but I certainly was expecting more than what this drone has captured. Maybe it’s just my drone and if that is the case I’ll update this review.

I do a lot of photography and the SE is going to add another dimension to the sort of shots I can take.

After a quickly watching a half hour on-line review and set up video of the SE on YouTube, I found it easy to set up and use.

I then took the Civil Aviation Authority on-line test for my Flyer-ID and would recommend it for everyone getting a drone, even a toy.

Now I was ready and I very soon picked up the flying controls doing short one mile circuits across the fields outside my back garden, and landing it by my feet. Once I felt competent I was flying about, hovering and taking some great shots, then just downloaded off the micro SD Card to my computer to edit, as I like to do them in Photoshop. Very pleased with the results so far and the combo pack is certainly worth the extra with three batteries and charger.

Lost signal once and screen went dead, left it and it flicked then went into returned to home mode on it’s own, then once signal regained I took back control – Brilliant.

I wish I had got one earlier, highly recommended this is a superb piece of kit and a lot of fun too.

I would have given five stars, the aircraft, app etc is absolutely fantastic, 1080 is more then good enough for general use, 2.7 k is better but only displays as a small box on my TV, editing and upscale to 4k fills the TV screen fine.
If you don’t use editing sofware this may limit things for you. The biggest bug bare was signal issues, if your just going to fly around the local field, should be ok, but it says 4/8km range, NO CHANCE, I fly up 50 meters and I get signal loss warnings, never had it switch to go home mode but worrying all the same, have sent back for refund and i am buying the 4k dji mini 2 with ocusync, hope this does better.
Think dji should be more acuurate with their spec.

After being introduced to drones by a friend I decided to get the mini 2 SE. So pleased i did, its very easy to fly and so much fun. I live by the coast and it’s great fun capturing footage and editing it. Highly recommended. Even my friend with the more expensive DJI drone thought I’d made a good purchase.

I needed a drone for some simple overhead photography of a project and this fits the bill and more. It’s a smart little device for the price point. Takes good photos and video. It was super easy to learn to fly – took maybe 10 minutes. It’s super portable – you can carry it in a backpack. The only downside is a short battery life. I get maybe 20 to 30 minutes of flight but that’s all I need. You could buy additional batteries to extend flight time. Be sure to charge after each use so it will be ready for next time. As a bonus, I get great sunset photos from my backyard.
